The Company commenced trading activities as Trinidad Flour Mills Limited and was engaged in the milling of wheat for the production of flour and wheat middling, a by-product used as a raw material input for the production of livestock feeds.

National Flour Mills Limited was incorporated on September 30th 1972. The Government of T&T was the major shareholder with Inter-Continental Grain Company and Maple Leaf of Canada holding minority shares.

NFM became a wholly-owned state enterprise, through the acquisition of the two foreign investors’ shareholdings.

NFM acquired Trinidad Grain Terminal Limited and began the sale of bulk corn and soyabean meal to feed manufacturers.

NFM took over the management of National Feed Limited. The company also became engaged in the manufacture and sale of livestock, poultry and specialty feeds.

NFM leased the local rice milling operation at Carlsen Field from the Ministry of Agriculture.

1987

NFM commissioned an integrated Soyabean Complex, which produced soyabean meal and crude, refined and hydrogenated soyabean oils together with bottled oil. Operations at this facility were discontinued in 2006.

Ownership of the Rice Mill was transferred to NFM.

NFM increased its on-site storage capacity by an additional 25,000 metric tonnes with the construction of additional concrete silos.

NFM commissioned ship loading/unloading facility which resulted in substantial cost savings in the handling of grain imports.

NFM became a Public Limited Liability Company when its shares were listed on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange.

NFM became ISO Certified.

A new state-of-the-art Feed Milling Plant was established and incorporated into the operations of NFM Limited. National Feed Mills becomes the feed, poultry and livestock division of NFM.

NFM acquired Nabisco Royale Inc. The Lion Brand and Royal Brand product portfolios were acquired.

NFM acquired HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) Certification.

NFM commissioned its new state-of-the-art 400MT capacity flour mill which replaced two flour mills that were over thirty-five years old.

NFM installed a new Grain Intake Scale.

Developed in-house Mixing and Packaging Equipment for 2-colour dog food. Launched Command Performance Dog Food.

NFM completed phase 1 of the upgrade of its extruder to enhance output and product quality of extruded feed.

NFM was ranked 348th in size and the 171st most profitable in a global market study of the top 500 largest grain mill product manufacturers in the world. It was also ranked “outstanding performance” in three categories.
The company executed the first phase of its Elevator Upgrade.

NFM was awarded an (A-) credit rating by CariCRIS, second only to Energy Sector Companies.

NFM navigates business challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic to achieve new milestones for operational resilience and sustainability.

NFM achieves SQF certification under food sector categories “19. Food Ingredient Manufacturing” and “22. Cereal Grains Processing.” This international standard covers the processing and packaging of flour and wheat by-products, dry mix products, and the storage and distribution of finished goods produced on site.
