‘LADY B’ WINS NFM INDEFEST CALYPSO COMPETITION

National Flour Mills Limited (NFM) held its first IndeFest Calypso Competition on Thursday 29th August 2019. This non-profit internal event was geared towards increasing the level staff engagement by creating a space for the showcase and enjoyment of employee talent through cultural expressions of the calypso artform.

Ten employees took to the stage with mix of presentations reflective of societal issues, comical renditions, melodic tunes and enchanting rythms. They were backed by Blaxx & the All Stars Band as they vied for five special prizes― road march, best nation building song, best presentation, best original composition and people’s choice, and the three top spots on the score chart. Sharlene Barrington, ‘Lady B’, emerged victorious, winning first place overall with her rendition ‘He Was a Good Boy’. She was followed by Kaitan de Gannes in 2nd place with ‘She Thick’, and Kesley Joseph in 3rd place with ‘We Island’. The Judging pannel comprised Roderick ‘Chuck’ Gordon, Mark Hernandez, Amrika Mutroo and Sunny Bling. Onika Atinumo served as the tabulator and JW hosted the event.

NFM extends its gratitude to all the volunteers, employees and sponsors― Pillai’s Tools, HADCO, Innovative Pest Control, NFM Sports Club, Lobax and Associates, K. Taitt’s Cuisine, Judy Alert-James, Pepper Pot, NFM Credit Union and Co-operative, Activ Mechanic Construction, Belcon’s Elderly Home, Benign Health, Seamen and Waterfront Workers Trade Union (SWWTU) and Steel Workers Union of Trinidad and Tobago (SWUTT).
